About Compass OT

People often say they feel unheard, overwhelmed or lost when dealing with their concerns. Compass OT is about being with you step by step to provide you with guidance for managing symptoms and navigating the healthcare system so you can achieve your goals.

Compass OT founder, Nazly Abtahi, will collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare providers, including your doctor, to develop individualized treatment goals utilizing the self-management model of living with chronic illness, disabilities or injuries. Nazly believes in empowering her clients with the tools they need to be able to gain more control over their life. She will also advocate for you to receive the care you require to recover.

Most importantly, Nazly will use your goals and meaningful activities to improve your engagement and participation in life. Our purpose is to maximize physical, cognitive, psychosocial function in order to enable a higher quality of life for you.

About NAZLY

Nazly graduated from a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy at Queen’s University immediately after completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Science at McGill University. Nazly is from Montreal but moved to Vancouver soon after acquiring her OT license. Growing up, her dream was to live in B.C. as she has always admired the mountains here. Her parents used to take her on beautiful mountain trips in Iran, which fuelled her desire to be surrounded by tall peaks. Being an outdoorsy person has made her truly appreciate the mind-body connection.

For that reason, Nazly takes on a holistic approach to help clients achieve their goals and return to meaningful activities. She also takes initiative in her learning and growth as an OT by staying up-to-date with research, collaborating with colleagues and joining learning events. Every year, she puts in hours as a casual employee for Fraser Health Authority working with a wide variety of clients in the community, i.e. fractures, seniors, stroke, dementia, complex and medically frail. Nazly has completed additional training for working with clients with brain injury and chronic pain. Since 2018, she has worked with ICBC clients living with injuries after a car accident and helping them return to their activities of daily living. Nazly’s main interests are return to work planning, chronic pain self management, and brain injury rehabilitation.

Outside of work, Nazly enjoys working on her mountaineering goals with her partner. She rock climbs and hikes during the week and hopes for fair weather on the weekends so that they can complete their mountain project of the week! Currently, she is learning how to backcountry ski in order to travel better in the mountains.
